Hitmen fire 127 shots at CD in weekend sweep
January 6, 2009

Troy, NY - This past weekend the southern division leading, Jersey Hitmen, traveled to Troy, NY for a two game set against the CD Selects. Fresh off a two week holiday break, the Hitmen looked to pick up where they left off prior to break winning their last six in a row. The Hitmen also added two very important pieces to the puzzle welcoming two ex-Hitmen back into the fray, Ryan Mckiernan and Corey Callen. Mckiernan, back from the USHL, will add an offensive spark from the blue line along with veteran presence and Callen, back from Oswego State, will add grit and a 'slippery' offensive element up front.

In game one, the Hitmen hit the ice as if they were unleashed from captivity, but as expected their timing and scoring touches were that of a team fresh off of a hibernation. In the first twenty minutes, the Hitmen were able to fire 15 shots on CD goaltender, Scott Lewen, but he was equal to the task as the period ended in a 0-0 deadlock, with Hitmen goalie, Jon Morrow making 6 saves. In period two, things clicked and they clicked quickly as childhood linemates were reunited and their uncanniness to find one another on the ice reared its head. Just :12 seconds into the period Jeremy Langlois found Alex Cantor stationed on the far post all alone for a tap in goal, and the Hitmen would take the game over from there. As the Hitmen would fire 37 shots on Lewen, to CD's 9 shots, and win the game going away, 4-1. In the victory the Hitmen would get goals from Langlois, Cantor and two from Alex Gallen, both on the powerplay, to extend their southern division lead to 11 points. In the victory, Jon Morrow would notch his 18th win good for 1st in EJHL goaltending stats.

On Sunday, the Hitmen would take the ice for their final regular season game against the Selects and pick up where they left off on Saturday. Just 2 minutes in, Hitmen veteran, Mike Muhs, would put the Hitmen up 1-0 with his 4th of the season and the Hitmen were off and running. Six minutes later, on the powerplay, Ansel Ivens-Anderson would score his 17th of the season with assists going to Garet Chumley and Will Frederick, but the Hitmen found that the selects would not give in as :55 seconds into the 2nd they would cut the Hitmen lead in half, 2-1. This goal would ignite the Hitmen in fine fashion as 4 minutes later Alex Cantor would notch his second of the weekend and the Hitmen would go on a shooting spree firing 54 shots at Tim Carr in the final two periods. Of those 54 scoring chances the Hitmen would cash in on six and put the Selects to bed, 8-1.

In the win, the Hitmen would have seven different scorers, and PJ Musico would bank his third win stopping 27 of 28 shots. With the win, the Hitmen extended their unbeaten streak to nine going 8-0-1, and put themselves back on top of the EJHL regular season standings. On Friday the Hitmen will face off against the South Shore Kings at 2:45pm at the Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. This game was rescheduled from the previously cancelled NE Jr Huskies showcase.
