Hitmen make it a perfect 10
Springfield, MA - The Jersey Hitmen traveled to Springfield this weekend for a two game set with the Pics looking to keep their 2010 unbeaten streak intact. The Hitmen, who have not lost since December 10th, have rattled off 7 league wins and 3 non-league wins as they dismantled Springfield this weekend, 8-3 and 7-1.
In the two victories the Hitmen were stellar on the power play converting on sixth of their twelve power play opportunities, raising their power play percentage to a league leading 29.14%. The Hitmen were also pleasantly surprised with the offensive outburst of the Preziosi-Bahntge-Belisle line as combined they notched 16 points. In goal, Matt Morris was excellent, kicking out 55 of 59 shots earning two hard fought victories and sky rocketing himself to the top of the EJHL in goals against average with a miniscule 2.04 GAA.
After the weekend we caught up with Coach Harris and asked him about the Hitmen's torrid winning streak and their weekend sweep. "I am very happy with the way the boys are playing right now. We became closer as a team after the Syracuse weekend, the boys are all on the same page, and we are finally playing together as a team unit, rather than a bunch of individuals." Harris went on to add, "we have a lot of big games on the horizon, starting with a gritty Philadelphia squad at home this weekend, and I know the room is excited for the upcoming challenges. With our balanced scoring attack, strong defensive core and two division one caliber goaltenders there is a lot to like and a lot of good things to come for this team."
