Effinger in a special class
Amherst, MA - In 2007-2008, St Louis native, Eddie Effinger, was named captain of the Jersey Hitmen. That was the same season that the Hitmen climbed from the cellar all the way to the top winning the EJHL southern division title, EJHL regular season title and the EJHL playoff championship. It was no mistake that Effinger was at the helm.
After the season Effinger took his on ice skills, and natural leadership, to Amherst College. In his first season Effinger finished in the top 10 in Lord Jeff scoring, playing in every game. In his sophomore campaign, Efffinger stepped it up a notch finishing third on the team in scoring, once again playing in every contest. Although Effinger has not 'torn it up' at Amherst (scoring 37 points in 53 games) his persona and locker room presence is invaluable.
This past week, Effinger, was voted by his teammates as captain of the Lord Jeff's for the 2010-2011 season. Only a junior, this feat holds illustrates Effinger's magnetic personality and will but at Amherst the 'C' on Effinger's jersey means a little more.
"Last week – as I expected – Eddie was voted captain by his teammates for next season. It’s only the 2nd time in 27 seasons that Jack (Arena) has been coaching at Amherst that a junior has been named captain," stated assistant coach Darren Reaume, a graduate of Amherst in 2002.
It is no surprise that Amherst fell just three points shy of a NESCAC championship this season, but with the talent, coaching and leadership at Amherst, good things are on the horizon.
