Prospective player/parent, do you have questions on our try-out format and other details? Hopefully we can answer your questions (below) prior to the event. If after reading below you still have further questions, please do not hesitate to email/contact our main office.
TRY-OUT DETAILS:
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged (especially for goalies). To register for both the EMPIRE and EJHL camp please fax/mail in the Hitmen Application (Click here to download Player Application). Walk-on's will be taken but, by pre-registering, we will be able to assign you a jersey number to cut down on registration time at the event, and more importantly it will ensure your spot at our camp. Goalies, it is very important for you to pre-register as the number of goaltenders will be 'capped' based on the number of skaters/teams at the event.
A commonly asked question is if you have a conflict and can't make one of the sessions is it still worth trying out? Yes! Each year at tryouts there are players that can't make each session due to school conflicts, or other spring sporting conflicts, that is ok. We do however encourage all players to make as many as possible, but it is not necessary, and it will not be held against a player if you can not make all the sessions.
"We are often asked 'how many spots are open?' and our answer is that it changes week to week based on our loyalty to the current years rosters," EJHL coach and Hitmen GM, Toby Harris commented. "What we tell each player and parent who inquire the question is simple, if a player is good enough we will find a place for him in our program. With numerous players from our EJHL team moving on college and players from our Empire team moving up to our EJHL team there are a lot of openings on both teams. With the success that both teams have had both within the EJHL and EMPIRE leagues, and moving players onto college, we are very excited for this years try-outs and re-filling those spots with good, hungry players."
Each year at our try-outs we find and select the bulk of our teams. Last season the EMPIRE Hitmen selected 15 from tryouts and the EJHL Hitmen team selected 6 players. While we do extensive scouting and recruiting, there are always players we first become aware of when they first step on the ice at our spring camp. Over the past 3 seasons, between the EJHL and newly formed EMPIRE franchise, the Hitmen have selected over 50 players from our spring camp and hope that we can do the same this season.
There are always rumors that surround tryouts prior to camp, 'there are no openings,' 'the team is pre-picked,' 'you need to "know somebody" to make it,' all false. While we can't speak to how other program's do their business, we can assure you that those coming to our camp will get a fair shot to make either of our teams. Our motto is simple here, if you can play, we will find a spot for you in our program, as we pride ourselves on character players that want to learn, develop, and become more marketable both on and off the ice. We understand that junior hockey is a stepping stone to the next level, college and hopefully further.
