NCDC teams wrap up busy three days at Hitmen Classic

The Connecticut Jr. Rangers and Jersey Hitmen came through the Hitmen Classic without a loss, while other teams move forward with many questions to answer. 

 

Thursday, Oct. 10

Jersey Hitmen 3, South Shore Kings 2

The Hitmen extended their winning streak and their record of most wins from the start of a season to nine in a row. But only just. 

The Kings’ Tommaso Alvera tied the game at the 8:10 mark of the second period, before University of Vermont recruit and Hitmen captain Mickey Burns scored the game-winner less than a minute left, at 9:07. 

 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers 5, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 4

Sam Myers scored two first period goals and Everett Wardle registered two assists to help lead the Rangers over the Monarchs. Tate Brandon won his first of two games in net. 

 

P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 3, Northern Cyclones 2

Bryan Vandelinder scored the game-winner for the P.A.L. side in the third period, extending the Jr. Islanders’ point streak to 5-0-2-1. 

 

Junior Bruins 3, Rockets Hockey Club 2

The Junior Bruins made it seven wins in a row on Thursday. Frankie Ireland scored the game-winning goal and an assist. 

 

Friday, Oct. 11

South Shore Kings 5, Rockets Hockey Club 3

Tommaso Alvera scored two goals, which saw him leave the Classic with a four-game scoring streak that has seen him rack up eight points in that stretch. Alvera entered Saturday ranked third in total NCDC scoring. 

 

Jersey Hitmen 4, Junior Bruins 0

The Hitmen’s Patrick Keenan and Jericho Petkovich each scored a goal and an assist and Gavin Abric stopped 29 shots for his first NCDC shutout. 

 

New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 4, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 0

Matt Pasquale stopped 29 shots for the shutout, his first of the season. Gabe Malek had a goal and two assists, including on the game-winner by Patrick Murphy. 

 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers 3, Northern Cyclones 1

Tate Brandon stopped 52 of 53 shots, and Zach Lindewirth put the Rangers ahead for good, as the Rangers left the Classic with a 5-0-2 run in their last seven games. 

 

Saturday, Oct. 12

Junior Bruins 5, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 2

The Junior Bruins scored three unanswered goals to break a 2-2 tie, starting with Zach Pellegrino’s GWG with 2:10 remaining in the second. The Junior Bruins closed the weekend with a 2-1 record, and remained tied with the Hitmen in points, while the Hitmen played the Monarchs. 

 

New Jersey Rockets 3, Northern Cyclones 2

The Rockets’ John Johnson scored the eventual game-winning goal at 9:47 of the second, and the Rockets held on for the victory, despite a two-goal game from Owen Bourdow. 

 

Jersey Hitmen 4, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 0

Abric earned his second shutout of the weekend, stopping 15, as the Hitmen ended the Classic as the only NCDC team to go 3-0 for the showcase. Daniel Ebrahim, with two goals, was the offensive hero for the Hitmen.
