The Hitmen Classic showcase, hosted by the Jersey Hitmen at their home the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J., continued in earnest on Sunday, Oct. 12, with USPHL 18U and 16U league games from morning through night.

USPHL 18U

 

Junior Bruins 7, Somang Hockey 3

Zach Kayton racked up three goals and added one assist, while Tyler Wilson had one goal and three assists (all on Kayton’s goals). 

 

Islanders Hockey Club North 5, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 2

The Islanders got five different goal-scorers, including Matt Walters, who posted the eventual game-winner in the second period. 

 

New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 3, Jersey Hitmen 1

Daniel Schnack’s second period goal stood up as the GWG, and Lucas Hrabkovsky stopped 29 of 30 shots. 

 

Skipjacks Hockey Club vs. Somang Hockey 

The Skipjacks had a scoring field day. Cole Danielson scored two goals and three assists for five points. Tim Rooney and George Boos each scored a pair and added a pair of assists. 

 

Philadelphia Hockey Club 6, Cyclones Academy Elite 1

Frank Jirak was the offensive leader for Philadelphia in their Hitmen Classic debut. He scored two goals and one assist.

 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers 3, Palmyra Black Knights 2

The Jr. Rangers earned their first win in their second of four games at the event. Robert Moliterno had two goals and goalie Justin Bucalo stopped 27 of 29 shots. 

 

Islanders Hockey Club North 4, New York Aviators 2

The Islanders have had earned their second and third wins of the season at the Hitmen Classic. Nimai Welch had a hat trick, and Preston Wilson stopped 32 of 34 in net. 

 

Jersey Hitmen 5, Cyclones Academy Premier 4 

Oscar Worob popped in a hat trick to lead the Hitmen to go 1-1 at the Hitmen Classic. 

 

Skipjacks Hockey Club 4, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 0

Hunter Thomas put together a 23-save shutout, his fourth straight shutout in league play, as he stands 4-0 with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage. Tim Rooney scored a goal and an assist. 

 

USPHL 16U 

 

Charleston Colonials 6, Potomac Patriots 1

Cole Elwood scored two and Gregory Addison stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Colonials, who were unbeaten through three games. 

 

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes 10, Connecticut Jr. Rangers Red

The Jr. Hurricanes got a hat trick from Dylan Bauman, and a 2-2-4 line from each of John Finn Rissanen and Chase Williams, to help the Jr. Hurricanes bounce back from their only loss to the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders. 

 

Jersey Shore Whalers Premier 6, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 2

The Whalers earned their first win of the tournament, and hope to add two more on Monday. 

 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers Blue 4, Cyclones Academy Premier 3

Robbie Jolliffe scored the game-winning goal with 43 seconds remaining on the clock. The Rangers had four different goal-scorers to give them their first victory on the only day they played at the Classic. 

 

New York Aviators 1, Jersey Shore Whalers Elite 0

Mattingly Siegel stopped 31 shots for the shutout win, and Tim Devine scored the second period game-winning goal, as the Aviators rebounded from a one-goal loss on Saturday. 

 

Skipjacks Hockey Club 1, Palmyra Black Knights 1

Cole McCulley’s goal at the 13:14 mark of the third tied the game for Palmyra, while Frankie Hipp got the limited scoring going in the second. Palmyra finished 1-1-1, while the Skipjacks still had two more games to play. 

 

P.A.L. Jr. Islanders vs. Charleston Colonials

The P.A.L. came back from a morning loss to rev up the offense and put 88 shots on goal in this decisive win. Ryan McKenna scored three goals and two assists, and Leonardo Capri had two goals and three assists. Charleston finished its first-ever USPHL 16U appearance at 2-2-1. P.A.L. stood at 2-1 with one game remaining. 

 

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes 4, Potomac Patriots 2

The Jr. Hurricanes’ inaugural jump into the USPHL 16U Division resulted in a 4-1 record, closing out with this win that saw Alexander James score two and add one assist. Jaxson Verska made 27 saves on 29 shots. 

 

Rockets Hockey Club Grey 3, Jersey Shore Whalers Elite 1

The Rockets went 2-0 in their only pair of games at the Classic. Jace Lombardo scored two goals for the Rockets. 

 

Jersey Hitmen 5, Cyclones Academy Premier 1

The host Hitmen got their first win in three tries, as five different goal-scorers put the puck in the net. Thor Hansen, Thomas Gilligan and Brendan Flaherty each added assists to their goals. 

 

Skipjacks Hockey Club 2, Connecticut Jr. Rangers Blue 2

The Skipjacks had their second tie of the tournament, and the Rangers left the showcase with a 1-0-1 record.
