The Jersey Hitmen are saddened to learn of the passing of our NCDC Broadcaster Bret Leuthner on January 1, 2024 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Bret was involved in sports throughout New Jersey as a broadcaster for Morris Sussex Sports covering high school athletics and as the voice of the Sussex County Miners since 2016. He was honored as Broadcaster of the Year in 2023 for the Frontier Baseball League.
A very familiar face to everyone at the Ice Vault, Bret could be found in the scorebox working as scorekeeper and PA Announcer or simply prepping for a game in our restaurant. He would always find time to chat and was usually surrounded by fellow broadcasters and friends.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his children and his family. A GoFundMe has been set up to start a college fund for his children.
Last night the world lost a great man. Bret Leuthner was not only a tremendous broadcaster, but an excellent human being as well. Throughout my broadcasting career, he’s always been someone I could look up to, and a mentor/peer that believed in me and my abilities… pic.twitter.com/rgY7wjhorc
