WAYNE NJ –

Fresh off a series sweep against the Bay State Breakers the Jersey Hitmen travelled to the Islander Showcase looking to add on to their 2 game winning streak, and that’s exactly what they would do.

In Game 1 the Hitmen skated to a 4-1 victory over the Palm Beach Hawks. Devon Palmieri (10) opened the scoring, Glenn Florczak (9), Nathan Black (5), J.R Barone (8) had a goal and an assist and Travis Geraci would contribute with 2 assists in the win. Starter Mike Cuozzo made 20 saves and improved he’s record to 3-2 with a 2.00 GAA and a .905 SV%.

Game 2 vs. The Potomac Generals would be a hard fought battle between both squads.   The two team’s skated to a 2-2 tie heading into overtime. But the Hitmen found their selves on the penalty kill for the first minute in overtime. Starter Nick Modica would come up big making save after save and the penalty killers would hold their ground and kill off the 4 on 3 man advantage to force a shootout. Andrew Calllahan scored the game winner in the shootout to give the Hitmen their 4thstraight win. Modica ’95 made 20 saves in the victory improving his record to 5-1.

Next up the Richmond Generals. The Generals would take an early 1-0 lead heading into the second half but the Hitmen would come out flying in the 2nd half and erupt for three unanswered goals. Glenn Florczak (10,11) continued his scorching scoring streak to 4 games scoring 2 goals and J.R Barone (9) added the game winner for the Hitmen’s 5th straight win. Starter Robbie Campbell made 20 saves in the victory for his 4th win of the season. Campbell ’95 is now 4-2 with a 2.72 GAA and a .912 SV%.

After a 3-0 start to the Showcase the Hitmen would falter against the Roswell Bulldogs in a 3-1 contest. Nathan Black (6) was the lone goal scorer for the Hitmen.

“We played our best hockey of the season for the first 3 games to start the showcase and played our worst hockey of the season against Roswell. It’s disappointing to end on a sour note." Commented Coach Henningson.
