Hitmen Elite Sweep Bay State Breakers

Coming off a “bye” weekend the Hitmen look to get back on the winning track in a rematch vs. the Bay State Breakers.   Glenn Florczak (5) would open the scoring in game one to give the Hitmen an early 1-0 lead heading into the second period.  The Breakers would score 2 unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead.  However the Hitmen would respond in the third period with goals from Tom Brennan, Andrew Callahan and Devon Palmieri take a 4-2 lead.  The Breakers would add a goal to make it 4-3 but starter Nick Modica would stand tall turning away 30 saves for his 4th win of the year.  Modica ’96 now sits 4-1 with a 2.89 GAA.

Looking for the weekend sweep the Hitmen would look to get off to a fast start but it was the Breakers who would jump to a 1-0 lead in game two.  Glenn Florczak (6,7) would quickly respond scoring 2 unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead.  Florczak ‘95 now has 4 goals in his last 3 games giving him 7 goals 5 assists for 12 points in 15 games.  J.R Barone (7) would add a power play goal on a five on three man advantage, tipping in a beautiful pass from Ryan Romeo to take a 3-1 lead.  Barone ’96 leads the team in points with 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in 15 games.  The Breakers would tie the game at 3 apiece midway through the third.  With 2 minutes remaining in regulation time the Hitmen would go on the power play to try and seal the deal.  With 5 seconds remaining Defenseman Ryan Romeo point shot ignited an ambush in front of the Breakers net minder and Devon Palmieri would jam home his team leading 9th goal of the season to give the Hitmen the 4-3 victory and a weekend sweep.  Starter Robbie Campbell was exceptional making 38 saves in the victory.  With the win Campbell ’95 is now 3-2 with a 2.98 GAA and a .908 SV%.

The Hitmen took 7 out of 8 points vs. the Breakers in the last 4 games and now hold a record of 9-4-2 and sit 2nd in the USPHL North Conference.

The Hitmen travel to the IHC Showcase for 4 games this upcoming weekend.  The Hitmen will face the Potomac Patriots (7-5-2), Richmond Generals (9-6-1), Palm Beach (10-3-1) and the Roswell Bulldogs (2-9-1).
