NICK MODICA WINS USPHL ELITE GOALIE OF THE WEEK

WAYNE NJ –The Hitmen would like to congratulate Nick Modica on winning goalie of the week. Modica ’96 from Strasburg, NY allowed 3 goals on 81 shots and was instrumental in the Hitmen’s victories at the USPHL Showcase. Modica also pitched a 19 save shutout win vs. the Florida Eels. Modica is now 9-3 with a 2.15 GAA and a .914 SV%.

The Hitmen went 2-2 at the USPHL Showcase with wins against the East Coast Eagles and the Florida Eels. In the first game the Hitmen beat the East Coast Eagles 2-1. Ryan Romeo (7) scored on the power play and Andrew Callahan (4) scored the game-winning goal on a nice back door feed from Mike Meisenbacher. Nick Modica made 30 saves for his 8th win of the season.

The Hitmen stumbled on day 2 of the Showcase losing 2-1 in back to back matches against the Hampton Whalers and Tampa Bay. The Hitmen bounced back on Day 3 with a gritty effort against the Florida Eels winning 1-0. Captain Mark Tomaschek (3) scored the GWG capitalizing on a nice pass from Ian Malone on a 2 on 1 late in the game. Starter Nick Modica made crucial saves down the stretch to solidify the 1-0 win.

“It was disappointing losing the way we did and taking dumb penalties late in the games. I felt that we were in every game and a couple bad penalties cost us the game. These are mistakes we can’t afford to make”

The Hitmen welcome the Islanders Hockey Club to the Ice Vault for a 2 game weekend series. The Hitmen currently are 4th in the USPHL North standings while the Islanders sit in 6th place.
