Bahntge nominated for Hobey Baker

Wayne, NJ - The Jersey Hitmen are proud to announce that alumni forward, Danny Bahntge, has been nominated for the 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is the most prestigious accolade presented to the top NCAA ice hockey player every season. Last season, BC standout and current Calgary Flames forward, Johnny Gaudreau was the recipient.
 
A native of Westlake, Ohio, Bahntge spent two seasons with the Hitmen. In 2009-2010, Bahntge, played 42 games with the Hitmen compiling a 17-27-44 scoring line. In 2010-2011, Bahntge was part of the top regular season team in EJHL history, winning a league title, southern division title and compiling the most regular season wins in EJHL history (40-3-2). Despite having major surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon early in the 2010 season, Banhtge, put up a respectable 8-14-22 scoring line in just 33 games and accepted a scholarship to attend Mercyhurst College. Since arriving in Erie, Pennsylvania, Bahntge has taken off, both on and off the ice.

2014-2015 (Senior):                         

Has played in all 17 games and is tied for third on the team in scoring with six goals and seven assists for 13 points ... six goals is tied for second on the team ... tied for team lead with two power play goals and is second on the team with two game-winning tallies ... has scored at least one point in nine games and has four multiple-point contests ... all 13 of his points have come in the last 12 games ... became the 19th member of the 100-point club during Mercyhurst's Division I era with a goal against Robert Morris on December 13 ... scored game-winning goal to help Lakers to biggest upset win in school history - a 2-1 win at then-#4 Colgate on November 1 ... also scored game-winner at Army on December 6 ... has blocked 15 shots and has been assessed just four minor penalties

2013-2014 (Junior):

One of seven players to appear in all 41 games during the season...finished fifth on team in scoring with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points...established career-highs in goals (15) and points (32)...tied for third with 102 shots on goal...had three power play goals (tied for fourth) and two game-winning goals (tied for second)...scored opening goal of game a team-leading five times...scored third career hat trick in 6-3 victory at American International on November 29 (three goals, no assists)...named AHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week on December 3...had two goals and one assist in 4-1 win over Sacred Heart on December 7...had seven multiple-point contests, including three multiple-goal outings...other multiple-goal game came in 3-1 win at Canisius on January 23...scored at least one point in 23 games and had season-long five-game point-scoring streak from November 29 to December 14...ended season on a four-game point-scoring streak...won 69 of 120 faceoffs (57.5%)

2012-2013 (Sophomore):

Played in all 41 games and finished fifth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points...his 14 goals ranked fourth on the squad...ended the season with a +7 plus-minus rating...was third on the team in shooting percentage, scoring 14 goals on 80 shots (.175)...had one power play goal at Sacred Heart on November 2...had his only game-winning goal the following day against the Pioneers...scored his second career hat-trick in 7-2 victory over American International on December 8...tied a season-high with three points (one goal, two assists) in 8-1 win over Army on February 2...had at least one point in 21 games and had five multiple-point games...only other multiple-goal game came in 5-4 win at RIT on November 9

2011-2012 (Freshman):

Named to the Atlantic Hockey Association's All-Rookie Team...led team in scoring as a freshman with 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points...was one of four players to play in all 40 games...his 21 assists led the team while his 10 goals tied for fifth on the team...had two multi-goal games during the season, including his first career hat-trick in a 9-1 win over Sacred Heart on January 6...won the team's Top Forward Award and Freshman of the Year at postseason banquet...was named AHA Rookie of the Week on January 9 after scoring four goals and two assists in two-game sweep of Sacred Heart...named AHA Rookie of the Month in November after scoring eight points in eight games...other multi-goal game came in game one of AHA Quarterfinals against Holy Cross...had eight games with at least two points, including a career-high four points in 9-1 win over Sacred Heart...had at least one point in 21 games
                            

Civic Involvement:

Bahntge, along with the rest of the team, has participated in Movember to raise awareness and research for prostate cancer and men's health ... over the last two seasons, the team has raised nearly $10,000 for the campaign ... has also helped to coordinate annual Teddy Bear Toss in each of the last three seasons to help benefit both the Wounded Warrior Project and Toys For Tots

Awards and League Honors:

Atlantic Hockey Association All-Rookie Team (2011-12) ... two-time member of the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team ... 19th member of the 100-point club during the Division I era at Mercyhurst ... currently has 45 goals and 59 assists for 104 points in his career ... has not missed a game in his four-year career (139 consecutive games played)
