HITMEN TAKE 18U TITLE IN OVERTIME

Foxboro, MA- Chris Mazzella scored two goals, including the game-winner 8:58 into overtime, to lead the Jersey Hitmen over Selects Academy 4-3 in the USPHL 18U League Championship Game.

Selects Academy drew first blood with 3:40 remaining in the opening period when Connor Sundquist passed the puck from behind the net to the slot. Matt Creamer took the pass and fired it home.

With 6:50 to play in the second period, Alex Limoges sent a pass up the left wing to Alexis Brinner, who made a drop pass to Joe Cipollone, who fired it past Hitmen goalie Ryan Glander.

The Hitmen got on the board when Rob Clerc picked off a pass and dished the puck to Mazzella, who stormed in on a breakaway. Josh Boyko made the save, but Mazzella buried the rebound with 3:39 on the clock.

Cipollone restored the two-goal lead with 1:11 remaining in the frame when he took a pass from Creamer beat Glander with his shot.

Connor Tierney pulled the Hitmen within one with a power play goal just 26 seconds into the third period.

Two minutes later, Alex Whelan had the puck behind the net and found Hunter Garlsco in the circle. Garlasco received the pass and fired it past Boyko to tie the game.

The overtime period was an exciting affair with the Hitmen outshooting Selects Academy 8-5 before Mazzella ended the game with 8:02 on the clock with an assist from James Callahan.

Glander made 29 saves and Boyko turned away 31 shots.
