HITMEN SWEEP ISLANDERS TO FINISH 3RD IN USPHL NORTH STANDINGS

WAYNE, NJ – The Hitmen traveled to Tyngsboro, MA to face the Islander Hockey Club for the final two games of the regular season.  Heading into the game the Hitmen held a three point lead for 3rd place and looked to clinch with two wins vs. the Islanders.  

Ian Malone (4) got the Hitmen on the board in game one, scoring his 4th of the season with a nice tip shot from defenseman Matt Ho.  Although the Islanders responded scoring two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead before   Mike Meisenbacher (14) evened the sore up at two apiece scoring on the power play.  The Islanders made it 3-2 heading into the second period however, the Hitmen would outscore the Islanders 5-1 in the second period to take a 7-4 lead.  J.R Barone (15,16), Devon Palmieri, (24) Matt Savarese (4) and Chase Wiedemann (3) all contributed in the win.  Starter Robbie Campbell made 28 saves in the win improving his record to 9-4 with a 2.35 GAA and a .910 SV%.

Down 1-0 in Game two the Hitmen scored two unanswered goals from Defensemen William Walker (3) and Tommy Brennan (3) to take a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.  The Islanders tied the game at two late in the Third period to send the game into overtime.  With 50 seconds remaining in O.T Glenn Florczak scored his 16th goal of the season to give the Hitmen the series sweep.  With the sweep the Hitmen clinched sole possession of third place in the North Conference.  Starter Nick Modica made 33 saves improving his record to 12-6 with a 2.11 GAA and a .920SV%.  


UP NEXT
With home ice advantage the Hitmen will see the Islanders Hockey Club for round one of the playoffs.  The Hitmen finished the season 28-12-4 while the Islanders finished 19-19-6.
