The USP3 team reeled off three more wins this weekend, defeating the Springfield Pics 5-3 and 6-2, capped off by a solid 4-3 win over the Jr. Bruins. The boys in blue are now 7-1 on the young season.

After sitting idle for two weeks the Hitmen returned to action Friday night against the Jr. Bruins. Both teams played a sloppy first half and the Bruins led 1-0 after one. The Hitmen would respond and knot the game at one but couldn’t hold off the Bruins as they scored late in the second half to win 2-1.

On Saturday morning the Hitmen reversed their fortunes with a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Springfield Pics. Zack Toy and Luc Roberts staked the Hitmen to a 2-0 lead but the Pics would score three unanswered goals and take a 3-2 lead with 5:30 left in the third. Danny Cangelosi responded with a goal of his own to tie the game at 3 with 3:41 remaining. Only a minute later, Evan Hoey would give the Hitmen a 4-3 lead and add an empty net goal to seal a 5-3 win. Alec Vitton (2-0) made 9 saves in the win.

A rematch Saturday night against the Jr. Bruins turned into the Hunter Kronk show as the first-year Hitmen scored all four goals to pace the boys in blue to a 4-3 victory. Kronk has scored nine goals in seven games while tallying 11 points through the first month. Danny Porth (3-0) was solid in net, making 28 saves for the win.

On Sunday morning the Hitmen completed their weekend showcase with a 6-2 win over the Springfield Pics. Luke Campomenosi scored twice, Kronk added two more and Cangelosi and Brendan Buckley also found the back of the net for the Hitmen. John Pitera (2-1) made 28 saves for the win.

Hoey leads the team in points with 17 and is tied for the most goals (9) with Kronk. Keith Bishop leads the team in assists with 10. Cangelosi (6g-6a-12pts), Buckley (5g-4a-9pts), Thomas Foschini (4g-5a-9pts) and Anthony Steffe (3g-6a-9pts) round out the team’s top point-getters.

The Hitmen look to stay hot as they host the Frederick Freeze this weekend.
