Jersey Hitmen USP3 Maintain First Place in USPHL Standings

The Hitmen recorded their seventh weekend sweep of the season, downing the Islanders Hockey Club 5-1 on Saturday and 4-1 on Sunday. The sweep allowed the Hitmen to maintain their first place lead in the North division. The Hitmen (19-4-2), with a game in hand, are tied with the Jersey Shore Whalers (19-5-2) with 40 points.
On Saturday, the Hitmen defeated the Islanders 5-1 behind a Keith Bishop hat trick. The forward scored three times in the third period to break open a 1-1 tie. Isaac Davison added a goal and Frank Steffe had two assists to help pace the boys in blue to a solid win. Alec Vitton improved to 7-0 in net, making 26 saves for the victory.
 
The Hitmen continued their winning ways on Sunday by beating the Islanders 4-1. Bret Shaffer scored twice, including the game winner and Chris Dressler, making his USPHL debut, scored on a snap shot from the high slot. Danny Cangelosi capped the scoring with 9 minutes left in the third to put the game out of reach. John Pitera made 22 saves for the win.
 
This weekend the Hitmen take on the Jersey Shore Whalers in a battle for first place.
