Hitmen Sweep Rochester

WAYNE, NJ - The Jersey Hitmen Premier sweep the Rochester Monarchs to end their regular season and clinch the 3rd seed in the Mid Atlantic Conference. The Hitmen will face off the against the Connecticut Nighthawks in the 1st round.  

The Hitmen finished the season on high note with a comeback 6-5 shootout win in Game 1 aganist the Monarchs.  The Hitmen found themselves down 3-0 after the first period but chipped away and battled back to tie the game late in the 3rd.  Austin Master (13) got the Hitmen on the board and Mathew Paiotti (11) scored to make it a 3-2 game heading into the 3rd period.  Rochester responded  scoring back to back goals making it a 5-2 game midway through the 3rd.  Josh Mead (5) started the comeback scoring on a 5 v3 power play goal.  On the ensuing power play Ben Dirks made it a one-goal game on a nice redirection from Austin Master.  The tying goal came on another power play goal from Abel Christians (14).  The Hitmen went 2 for 2 in the shootout and starter Cole Mulholland sealed the win making back to back saves vs. the Rochester shooters.  Mulholland made 30 saves for the win improving his regular season record to 9-6.  

After the emotional win the Hitmen came flying out of the gates in Game 2 and cruised to a 6-1 win for the weekend sweep.  Austin Master (14,15) added 2 goals, Dan Mirman (5), Zach Thompson (5) , Ben Dirks (4) and Josh Mead (6) all tallied goals.  Starter Trevor Osborne made 25 saves for the win.

Head coach Dan Henningson on the weekend, "The guys played hard and it was nice to see us comeback in the first game and hold the lead and not get complacent in game 2.  We played playoff hockey and we got rewarded for it."
