A native of Hudson County, Pat Verney has spent much of the last 30 years involved in New Jersey hockey. Verney excelled at Hudson Catholic High School, where he received National Division MVP and Star Ledger All-State team recognition in both 1998 and 1999. He finished his scholastic career fifth all-time in the state of New Jersey with 301 points (117g, 184a). Beyond his high school career, Verney spent two seasons playing Junior Hockey, serving as team Captain in the 2000 season for the Greater Metro Junior Rangers, out of Monsey, N.Y., in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League.

After his playing career, Verney stayed involved in the sport through coaching at both the travel and high school level. He was named the Star Ledger Central Jersey Coach of the Year in 2007 as the Head Coach of Hillsborough High school, and he received the Star Ledger Essex County Coach of the Year Award in 2009, 2016 and 2018 as the Head Coach of Montclair High School. 

Pat Verney was inducted to the New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame at the Prudential Center in 2014, and had his jersey and number retired upon induction to the Hudson Catholic High School Wall of Honor in 2017. Verney currently works as a History teacher at Montclair High School. He and his wife Krista have a 9 year old son Patrick and a 4 year old son Ryan.
